Both manual and automatic transmission are discussed here, including the clutch!

Really heavy clutch

Post by Glival » Mon Mar 08, 2004 10:10 pm

Hi all,

The clutch pedal of my turbo is really hard to handle; it's even worse than fitness-equipment :(. Is this normal for a turbo?
I think my mother couldn't drive my car even if she wanted to... you need to be quite strong to press the clutch far enough :o
Does this sound familiar?

I think maybe it´s time for you to buy another clutch.
I had that problem when i bought my 89 turbo but at that time i didn´t had a clue of how a 480 clutch should be(i had a Polo Van before).
Some time later the clutch cable broke down, luckly in front of my house when parking.
Check the cable on the engine compartment and see if it isn´t bending the piece of metal where the cable is attached.Mine was...

Mine is also heavy. I like it being heavy, but don't want to break down beside the road. I think it's time to take a look at it. Thanks 4 the tip.
The accelerator's cable broke away once. (It's also worth some care, when you take the car to a mechanic next time. )

PS.: I had to fix it myself because of lack of cash. I fixed it with a cheap bicycle break cable temporarily. (after 25000 kms it's still working) :O))
(bicycle brake --> volvo accelerator) ;O)

I certainly will buy the volvo cable, because the car deserves it and that's for that. http://volvo480.northernscum.org.uk/for ... ply&t=2628
http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/p ... ply&t=2628 56€

The bicycle break wire is less than 2€.
