exploding flywheels
when i did my clutch a while ago i noticed the flywheel had small lines radiating from centre and now i am thinking these could be stress fractures ,has anybody else come across this as i have a few stories about exploding flywheels ,even mentioned by rpruen ,i hope to use volvo next month but a bit wary now .89 turbo with richmod.

i assume these are surface cracks ,whats the chances of these developing into something a bit more sinister ,i will be taking gearbox off after summer and get the flywheel fixed, but until then then im hoping to run about in it ,hopefully im looking into this too much.

No to make any forms of metal stronger you heat the metal to a certain degree depending on metal e.g. mild steel 800 degrees then what ever the rate of cooling will determine how strong it is be wary the faster you cool the harder it will become but it would be more britlle. Works on the princible of placing and removing carbon.felyx wrote:you can get your flywheel skimmed by 1mm for about 20 quid at any engineering shop , this may help. you could also have it treated by chilling it down to minus185degress celcius which would make it maybe 15% stronger.
cheers felyx
