Electric Aerials on E-bay

Post by Brasco » Thu Nov 10, 2005 1:05 pm

There's always someone selling electric aerials for BIN £25 plus 6.50 p&p on E-bay.

Are these a good buy or not?

Yeah, but the motor wears out after a few years, and £25 is a good price if the sale includes the motor...
That's my car up there, see?

I had to replace one on the turbo years back and got one from Halfrauds £16 which I thought was great.... til I tried to fit it.

Cos the 480 mounting point is on an angle on the rear wing you either have to bodge your old ariel parts onto the new one - or better still - just get Volvo 480 spec one in the 1st place.

Stu.

Them ebay ones are shite quality Ad

Id just whack a 440/60 one in if yer stuck,or make a good one out of 2 parts.

Naturally, grease the pole well and keenly before insertion to ensure maximum thrust and burrow! :D

Gotta make sure it glides freely and doesn't snag on any grot that might damage the reception...

Fnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaar!

The one on my new Turbo is busteded upt. I've fitted an ordinary rubber one on the baroness but it was an ABSOLUTE pig to tighten up, as Stu says, the positon of the aerial is not helpful. So this time I'm going to avoid those shenanigans and fit one with a motor.

I thought those ones on ebay looked a bit "pilen-press photo-5hpmod".

Does anyone know a reputable place to get an electrical aerial that fits and doesn't cost a fat chunk of filthy lucre?

Just get one from a scrappie and hook it up to a battery before you leave to check its ok,thats what I'd do matey!

I've just bought one from ebay for £18.50 and I'm now hoping it'll not be a piece of crap!
My old one was working OK (retracting!) until the day before the alternator decided to pack in and the battery went flat on the way to work  I then had to abandon it to get to work on time (how inconvenient! ) and when I went back to sort it after work, some ba*#%rd had snapped off the aerial mast :badmood:
Ah well, it'll be just my luck for the new one to be a cheap plastic piece of poo!

I had my alternator fade and die on me too recently. I have to say, having owned a 480 for almost a year, I'd never own one without AA/RAC/Green Flag/"Help! Get me outta here" coverage....

There should be a law on peaple who deliberately snap thing off your car, for every bit snapped off, you should be allowed to break one of their fingers (I can't think of a car with more than 10 snappable items on it, so seems to work well)... truth be told, I would be quite happy to do it even if it was illegal...

You can get the mast for the volvo one from volvo for £25. This is only any use if the motor is ok though.
