Check the fuses, and also the wire that also goes to the radio (that powers the infocenter).

If all the dash lights are out, then try the dimmer thing on the stering colulum.

This happened on mine and it was the computer on the back of the speedometer. I bought the wrong one for mine so do have a spare that will work in an ES of that year I think. Seemed to work in mine, just didn't do everything right because it wasn't compatible with my 91 car. So it does work as far as I know.

Wasn't there an FAQ section on how to identify the correct computer? Had a look but can't find it, unless its a post instead. Anyone?

Another thought, check the earth wire that's connected to the B- wire on the alternator. It's blue and some other colour (on my car). Also check the earth strap from the same terminal to the alternator bracket, if eiter of those are loose then the infocenter will do crazy stuff.

the plugs on the back of the dash are colour coded, one green, one grey etc. you need to find a dash with matching colour plugs and from the same period, pre 92 or post 92 to match your car.
there is a 480 in a scrappy near me, if your stuck for a dash post your car year and the colours of your plugs and i will check and see if the scrappy car matches yours :D

also, check the big halogen bulb that lights up the infocentre display, if this is out the infocentre display wont light up. shine a torch on the fuel gauge at different angles and see if you can faintly see the dislpay :D

i bought my 480es from ebay about six months ago, it's brilliant. best car i've driven. but i too have lost my control centre, it lights up but there's no numbers displayed, rev counter and speedo still work though.

the radio has also died.

and the cigarette lighter.

and the interior light.

i've changed fuses on what i could find in the fuse box.

but nothing.

before there was an intermittent failure of the control panel, is there a quick way to check connectors? or could it be something more serious?

any comments, even mickey takes, most welcome.

thank you.

There is a wire behind the radio that also supplies the things that you mention. It's connected to the back of the radio plug, and also to the infocenter via the loom. If an aftermarket radio is fitted check that it's not disconnected or shorting out.

Also check the earth wire on the alternator as above, since the infocenter will go blank without it connected. But that won't stop the radio etc. from working.

There are a load of connectors on the back of the fuse box, that is also worth a look. If possible check the fuses with a meter, since they can crack where the fuse wire part meets the spade, so look fine, but not complete the circuit.

Hope that helps

You don't need a radio fitted, but if anything has been cut, joined or messed with then it could be the problem.

Best to check out the wiring diagrams on the site. It's the same address as thwe forum but without the /forum/ part on it (I think).

Hope that helps

i fixed mine, (same problem) by reconnecting the thin brown/grey wire to the alternator, 10 minute job with solder & heatshrink.

Yeah I agree with alfonzobonzo..

I had the whole info centre bit keep re-setting itself everytime i accelerated - it was fine when stationary or when at a constant speed. In between resetting itself it was also loosing all illumination.

I found the grey/green wire on the alternator to be loose and re-attached it with a new connector and now it works again all the time.

I had other problem while my day running ligths were on dashboard wasn't lighted. I took out instruments plug out plugs and after conecting it again IC died. I was moving cables and it's alive again. I had this problem for several times. I think that I'll have to change the plug. Try to move cabels they may doen't connect properly.
