Expert Advice Needed

Post by Mitch » Mon Sep 27, 2004 7:17 am

I am going away for a week. The car will be left in a locked garage. Is it wise to disconnect the battery? I have an immobiliser which flashes constantly as well as the alarm, and I am concerned that these will drain the battery. If I do disconnect the battery, am I correct in asuming that I will not be able to open the doors or the bonnet, and so would it be better to leave the bonnet open. Sorry if this appears to be a dumb question, but I don't have much technical knowledge. :?
Thanks,
Michelle

I would imagine that if you're concerned about drain just disconnect your battery but leave your bonnet open; ie after disconnecting don't push the hood shut completely. When you get back you can then reconnect the battery and get back in.
Just left my car in a garage for 4 days, didn't disconnect- it was fine.
Factors like the age of the battery do play a role in these things, but i'll leave it to others who know more to suggest other ideas.....

If you disconnect the battery you will be able to open the bonnet, and the drivers door, as both are mechanincal links to the lock, and bonnet relese handle. The pasanger door, and cetral locking won't work though.

If the car is left for a week, it shouldn't be a problem, unless the battery is on it's way out anyway.

You can open the passenger door also, just not on the central locking. It shouldn't drain the battery after a week anyway, unless you have a poor battery or some electrical fault.
