Re: high pitched noise
No idea.
Just keep the lights on.
Or turn the radio up.

Re: high pitched noise
It could be the alternator bearings or one of the belts. When you put the lights on it increases the load and takes up the free play. Probably rubbish, As it normally works the other way roundbut worth a look!http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/p ... 12&t=34337#

Hmmm..but it's more like an electronically made noise if.you know what I mean? Not like a worn bearing, it gets louder with the radio on, thanks though!

Re: high pitched noise
Is the sound coming through the speakers?
The radio could be picking up the interference from the alternator or other electrical systems.
Pretty well everything can create interference but the alternator will be favourite, it can create all kinds of bangs, whistles and whines which can be amplified by the radio.
This would explain the electronic sound and also why it gets louder when the radio is on.
If there is a hint it might be coming through the speakers unplug the speakers from the radio to verify.
