2-1-2 SRS after working on the steering column

Hi all After replacing a dodgy seal on my steering rack I have got a 2-1-2 srs fault code. Look it up and it says hat resistance is too high! Does anyone know what might be the prob? I had to take the column out to do the job.

Did you allow the wheel to spin/turn before putting it all back on again?

The wheel turns 3.4 (IIRC) lock to lock.
There is a copper coil behind the wheel, that carries current to the airbag. this tuns 6.8 (IIRC) turns lock to lock, i.e there is plenty of spare coil in normal use.
With the wheel centred, the rack centred, and the wheel ponting dead ahead, this coil needs to be in its centre position also (3.4 turns from one end)
If for example the coil had been allowed to spring round to one end, and then everything put back together without correcting it, the first time the wheel is turned to that extreme - snap - _extremely_ high resistance.....

Can be checked by whipping the wheel off to have a look.

Or it could be something else.

Incidentally, why remove the column to work on the rack???

Chris that sounds exactly like what may have happened! I'l get the wheel off tomorrow and have a look. Can I rejoin it in anyway if it has snapped?

Does anyone know how much one would cost from volvo?

I might have a chance of a full car for 50 sheets so I'll prob hang off and see if the deal goes through.

You really wouldn't want to trust operation of the airbag to a repaired one! Not that it could be repaired really, its like a ribbon of copper.

Best bet is to get one from a scrap car, check the manual for the exact number of turns etc and use the locating screw provided to hold it until the wheel is back on.
