Hi everyone,
I bought my 480s in late '01, and the seller happened to mention that he'd investigated wiring the 2 nd. rear foglight, plus orange rear side - lights
( put there for U.S. market, I presume ).
The car had a mobile phone car - kit at some stage, in previous ownership. The Blupunkt 'face off' stereo works when it feels like it ... though I know that these are rubbishy, so it may not be a fault of the car itself.
The other things that don't work are:
Rev. counter
Temp. guage
warning beeper for seatbelt
Heated seats
Fuel gauge ( erratic: dies when lights are raised )
I'm no auto electrician, but has anyone any ideas, or is there a pattern in what doesn't work? I've a feeling some moron messed with the electrics at some stage.
Regards,
Anthony.

Hello,
I am only a new member myself so not very sure.
Perhaps you could find a scrap or spares 480 with no electrical tampering and begin to copy and replace the cables and relays etc from the scrap car to your cables where modded, and re-lay power feed to 12v for stero etc, just replace it bit by bit? It would be worth it for such an interesting and unusal car. Are electrical faults common on these cars then ?
Not much of an idea sorry,
good luck
Matt

Trying to mosh wi' the newbies?
Hi Matt,
You not so new member, you! Actually it's not the worst idea by a long shot. Hard to find 'em scrapped here though ... there seemed to be loads of 480's once, but they just 'disappeared' ... ditto Escort MKII / Opel
( Vauxhall ) Manta / Golf MKI.
Thanks for sharing!

Check the brown/red wire behind the headunit, it's the feed for both the stereo and the dash
The other things that don't work are:
Rev. counter
Temp. guage
check the connections to the dash, behind the gauge cluster
warning beeper for seatbelt
Heated seats
if both sides: check the fuse, if one side: check the connector under the seat.
Fuel gauge ( erratic: dies when lights are raised )
check the connections to the dash, behind the gauge cluster
These are the most common things, but any 480 has it's electrical problems...
