daytime running lights failed, is it legal ???????

From CEM to VEM, from LED to lightbulb and more. If you have an electrical problem, like a broken info-centre, search for answers in this category. This is also the place to be when you expect the problem to be of an electrical nature...

Shouldn't be a problem.. You will need to get it sorted for MOT though, I'm sure?

At night, you shouldn't be driving with just your side / day lights anyway, I think you can get fined for that? As long as your (pop-up) headlights are good and legal the day lights wouldn't matter much I don't think.

Your fine Nightrider, the DRL's are a volvo safety feature not sidelights and therefore not a legal requirement - at dusk you can use the 1st position on your pop-ups which are the 'proper' sidelights, then when dark 2nd position is headlights.

I just think most 480 owners never use the sidelights, relying on the DRL's for that and go straight to headlights.

If only one has gone, replace both the bulbs anyway or one will usually end up darker than the other.

Good luck with it - careful taking the clusters out as I snapped mine 1st time round.

Stu.

Shouldn't have done, I wouldn't go there again. As stu said, the DRL are NOT an mot-able item

yep that's right, i put mine through MOT earlier and the test guy didn't seem to take notice of those DRL ( i've never been able to make them equal brightness so eventually i took both of them out) and the important result was my car just sailed through the test :)

Did have my wondering on that before though.
