All the information you need on engine-problems is here. The engine includes the Turbo-charger, airco and everything else you'll find under the bonnet.

Engine dies at light/junctions???

Post by johnd » Wed Jul 28, 2004 11:16 am

I get to a junction and push the clutch down. The revs drop below idle and rise to 800 most times but sometimes it drops that low the engine cuts out.

I suspect I need to clean my idle valve. Before I do, any other ideas?

It's happened suddenly.

Cheers

That's exactly my problem too John. But for my Turbo it only happens after the engine hasn't been used for a bit (eg first start in morning). Board evidence might suggest the idle valve but does anyone else have any other ideas :? ???

For the moment I have tightened my accelerator cable so that the idle floats about 900rpm instead of about 800rpm and the problem hasn't occured once since. It did seem a bit slack. Seems a lot more drivable now oddly.

We are meant to idle at 800rpm though aren't we? Still going to clean the valve as a matter of course though and, from Jamo's review, when I've installed my FSE the idle should be better. But then again maybe that was just Jamo's car.

Theres a bit about setting up the idle in the front of the Haynes manual. Might be worth doing, I'm going to try it. So much work to do on my 480 to get it to a good example!!
