Dear Volvo 480 Club Of Europe this is my first ever post so i hope its allright!

My Oil temp rises as normal, the engine feels the same temp (on the block) and through the heater - it runs like its at normal temp.

But it just says "COLD"

:(

This makes me sad - I hope i can fix it becase i would love to keep this interesting and different car, please help.

your wire connector has come off the engine temp sensor on your block.

How come its your first post yet you have 395 and 'knows where 480 comes from'.
One of my previous cars did that, like martin says it could be the wire come off, but mine occasionally worked so whatever it is going to be either a partially broken wire, a bad earth or it may be worth taking the sensor out and cleaning it although this should only improve the oil level function rather than the temp.

Hi guys this is my first reply to a post. Thanks for all the ideas, but because i am a noob can you tell me where to find the "engine block" in these individualistic cars? Is it near the CEM in the passenger footwell?

Once again thanks and nice to talk on this excellent site.

Regards

Matt

PS has anyone ever tried to tune any of the 480 series? I am a mechanic and i think it will be impossible to chip tune, especilly on the turbos - because of the flux resinc composite driveshafts?

Dear all, this is my first thing i've fixed on the 480. For other noobs, the wire is located on the passenger side (UK) of the engine, between the engine bulkhead and the rear of the engine. It runs near the pipes for the heating and the main HT lead. Mine is brown. It is a silly sprung clip thing that has got all loose. Now the temp dislays fine.

THanks to you all for the help., its great that a place like this exists for people who have been lucky enough to own one of these strange cars!
