What oil do u prefer?

Post by Street_sleeper » Tue Jan 30, 2007 10:47 am

I'm going to drain the oil, out of the engine at the end of this week , just wondering what would be ur prefered choice?

As my 480 has done over 80k on the milage, what would u recommend ?

Also i want to buy a new set of spark plugs and ht's, what brand would be best for performance?

On my Turbo I had Denso iridium sparks... they're the best but expect to pay over £40 for a set. Good quality HT's, I went for Magnecor. They are made to order and they have a lifetime guarantee, very good quality and not too expensive.

Use semi-synth oil, (Castol Magnetec is the oil of choice) unless the car has always run on fully synth, then use that. Don't if it hasn't because the seals will leak and you'll have all kinds of bother on your hands.

There are lots of threads covering these, if you do a search.

Magnatec, 10w40. Remember to buy and fit a new washer for the sump plug. They have to be replaced every time.

10/40 semi synth... I look for the spec rather than a particular brand.
I think the current spec to expect is SL for petrol engines.

I use the same oil in my bike too & if its good enough to go in that ( 1300cc / 175 bhp) its plenty good enough to go in any of my cars ;)

Definately look at the spec (and then buy Magnatec ;) )

Well my fav oil of the moment is a nice fully synth tri-ester 15W60 (Miller CFS15W60, with extra addative package) to be used once the engine is run in.

Currently the engine has a running in oil, that is normal mineral oil, since running in is much faster than using a synth blend.

These are possibly not the best oils to be using in a standard engine though. Magnatec would be a better bet I would think.
