One and a Half cans of brake cleaner did the job. The engine now sparkles and we went on holliday!
Judging by the overtaking i've been doing there is no permenant damage to the engine
It gave me a good excuse to clean all of the electrical contacts with some contact cleaner too. Hasnt made a blin dbit of difference to all my 480 probs.
