Hi,

You'll need a Valeo starter engine. Best is the 1100 Watt version. I will search for the precise details and post them as soon as I have them.

It is, by the way a pretty nasty job, replacing the starter engine on a 480 turbo. Best is to access 2 of the bolts from above (remove the airfilterbox) and the last one from underneath the car (move between the downpipe and the gearbox.

I must say that I was very glad when I was finished.

If it was possible for me to have my own starter engine repaired than you could have it for a good price, but the thing was totally wrecked. All off the magnets were broken and the middle piece was bent.

Good luck finding one.

The earlier bosche ones are meant to better than teh Valeo (the ones that have the nice chunky starting noise). Apparently the Valeo ones are more prone to failing...not sure how much truth is in that though!

It does look like a pig of a job...and my ES is on the way out - stays engaged for a micro second after the engine starts causing a horrible crunce and sometimes it wont atttempt to start and i have to give it a minute tbefore it will work!

Good Luck mate!

Bosch ones with the big solenoid attached are much longer lasting than the Ducellier coil-sized ones in my experience.Mind you they sound old fashioned!

Nope Haz has a T28, Tobi has a TB25 and I have a T25

Anyways the old type (big starters) are better. I have installed 3 starters over the last 3 or so years because those crappy little ones die. Now on the later type with no problem!

I also have a brand new late type as a spare.

The job on a turbo is a bitch but on the ES it's easy.

You don't have to take the whole downpipe of to change the starter engine. I succeeded by moving between all the different parts.

It's worth trying, while removing all the rest is not the most pleasant job.

Well, just see, wish you all the best mate!! You'll need it
