Cam belt noise?

Post by AJH001 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:03 pm

Hi

My 480ES (1994 Auto) has begun to make a noise. Only in the first ten minutes or so from a cold start - it is relative to the engine speed - sounds like a belt but I have listened carefully and it seems to becoming from the back of the engine not from the alternator / can belt ...

Any one ideas?

Cheers

Alan

The cambelt itself cannot make the wining noise that a slipping aux belt cam do, as the cambelt can't slip around the poulies. What can make noise are the tensioner and the other wheel where the cambelt is routed around (don't know the right English word for it). When the bearings in these are worn, they can make a wining sound.
