Excellent Idea Martin. My DRL are cracked and perished as well.
Looking forward to seeing the final photos

Re: Erratic idle, stalling (Have read old topics :) )
I had a similar problem some years ago on my non - turbo B18. Turned out to be the Engine Temperture Sensor. You mentioned you checked the resistance and it was in range but it might be still worth temporarily dissconnecting it and letting the CEM default settings take over. You could definitively r...

Re: 480's in Ireland...FAO Irish Members
I am still driving my '93 two tone. I also recently heard of another unaccounted on the road example near Youghal.
But if I was to hazard a guess I'd say the number of road legal 480's is down to 10 or less.

Exhaust types
I have been on the look out for a new back box for my non turbo 1.7. I have been offered a new one for a 2.0 litre, for a song but unfortunately the part number is different. Does anyone know what the difference is, they look superficially the same. Is it simply a slightly different diameter of pipe...

Re: WANTED: Main Beam Plastic
Same problem here, my DRL lenses are seriously yellowed/deteriorated and it seems a waste to buy whole new units.
New ones could be easily silicon-ed on, if they were available separately
I emailed that Dutch guy, who was planning to make various replica bits, but he never replied.

Re: engine turns off when getting hot
I had a similar problem years ago with the engine stalling when warm but this was on a 1987 car , turned out to be a faulty engine temperature sensor, however I believe the later car's ECU could compensate for faulty readings, however there is a chance your problem could be ECU related Back to the o...

Re: cylinder head question
After more research on here im going to anwer my own query
http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/v ... 11&t=15425
Looks like il have to look in and see if the pistons are damaged. I cant remember if the mechanic had said if the valves or the pistons or both were bent.

Re: cylinder head question
Thanks for the replies. So it may be as straight forward as swapping the head. Has anybody done this procedure to correct damage resulting from a timing belt break? Im presuming I'd need a head gasket kit, new bolts and a new timing belt (and auxillaries). Am i neglecting anything else,eg. the pisto...

Re: cylinder head question
The old Renix ECU is fried and doesnt work correctly on the B18E, There are flywheel and sensor issiues of using a newer ECU.glasgowjim wrote:why not just swop over the engine ?
Perhaps a head swap might be the most straight forward option

Re: cylinder head question
I have a similar question, will the cylinder head off an '87 B18E fit a '91 B18EP. Excuse my ignorance of engines but if i take the head off, do the pistons and springs come with it. Basically my timing belt went on my '91 480 and was told the pistons had bent and the head would have to be re-planed...

I think if your on a budget..You should try and refurbish the rear lights, even if they have a few splits on em I would estimate around 70 euro per bushing fitted...prob about 15 euro for the bush itself and the rest labour. The Calipers might just need adjustment? But realistically you could be look...

Re: C30 Vs 480
I like the C30, once the traditional Volvo depreciation kicks in after a few more years, it could be a great option, however I'm not so keen on the face-lifted 2010 model, it has got a new nose and grill that looks a bit plastic-ey IMO

Re: 480's in Ireland...FAO Irish Members
This one has just turned up for sale on donedeal, looks a bit tatty, but not giving it a wash doesn't help either. It has an unusual sticker running the length of the car, has painted ? red rear lights (how would the reverse lights work?), the wheels are not to everybody's tastes (mine anyway) and t...
