Re: ECU Modification
While the interest in modifying the ECUs is decreasing, there is little need for me to keep test copies. Selling seems like a good idea. There are two copies, red and blue. Both have the same technical characteristics and switching is done internally via relays. The features: 1- Switch between Eco a...

Re: Help needed. No start. No spark
It is quite difficult in this lengthy conversation to find out what actually happened, so I didn't. But it may not be superfluous to point to the fact that the relays in many cases are activated by the ECU only if the engine is turning e.g. by the starter motor. At ignition on relay connections 86 c...

Re: 1994 Volvo 480 Turbo Diary - Update July 2020
Your report about rebuilding the engine is very interesting, particularly the part about the valves as it reveales things I should have known years back. When I advised people about the dump valve it was evident to name the 06A145710P as, in contrary to the original, it has a metal interior and the ...

Re: ECU Modification
Contrary to my expectations, the demand for modification continues. Repeatedly it turns out this thread is too long to grasp the essentials, forcing me to iterate explanations. Hence a recapitulation. 1- The Roboumod is equipped with the mod ("eco") resulting in smoother handling and less fuel consu...

Judging by Jeffs activity on the forum he's a very busy person. Let's relieve him by sending me your e-mail address by PM and I'll provide you with the somewhat outdated "Manual". This conversation triggered an update in https://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19944 where you may ...

Re: Robou ECU Fly Lead?
After having received jifflemons documentation you may notice an isolated jumper is needed to temporarely connect the wires in order to perform a reset. From the picture I can't make out whether the jumper is still present. If not, a (metal!) paperclip or anything like that will do. Just don't keep ...

Well, it is you asked, but it very much looks like one of the rear springs is giving up.

Re: Yet more engine issues
You found the culprit, I suppose. Start by replacing the filter, no harm done anyway. If still no return the pump should be checked.

Re: Yet more engine issues
Perform a reset on the roboumod and check if the problem is right there from the beginning. Both ECUs may be in some loop as a result of turbo spikes or some ignition anomaly. Also check the vacuum in the air pipe to the ECU. This is no cure but it may give a direction of where to find a solution.

Re: Blinky 51/480
In some cases circuits in which the DRL's are included in the defect check are affected: The warning light stays on. Just do away with the bulb failure detector in the relais box. The rear bulbs check will remain. The resistor idea is nonsense. They are in parallel with the bulbs so always cause a c...

When shielding is used for equalizing potential it is not shielding anymore. Shielding should be connected only at the input ground preferably.

Re: Erm, engine won't start, seems to be flooded with fuel
When you tapped the accelerator you made the throttle valve go into it's closed position. The cable gets stuck somewhere. It has nothing to do with the idle valve. Oil and/or loosen the cable a bit and check if the accelerator comes up all the way. If at starting the throttle valve was not at it's i...

Re: Rough running - B18FT
All symptoms, except the long time to start, sound like being caused by the MAF. Check first if you replaced it by the correct type, number ending by 007 or 021. Then clean the connector and if no success move the wiring to and fro. You may reconnect a broken wire in doing so. When idling is normal ...

@yorkievolvo: Not any coil, I stated coil meant for transitorized ignition, today's cheap standard. And after Alan 480's post I may add a coil meant to be used with a balast resistor but then used without the resistor. "Any" coil would include the coils meant for use with breaker points which could ...

Re: Engine Electrics
Some odd misinformation here. The turbo has just a cheap standard coil for transistorized ignition. The coil connects to 12V at ignition on. A small module, holding two transistors, is connected to the other spade on the coil and connects/disconnects to ground. The latter action causes a spark. This...

When you take the infocenter fully apart you'll notice the elecrical connections to the glass substrate are made by a strip in which there are conductive parts. Both ends may have a failing contact. Clean the surfaces with whatever you find appropriate and may be you find a way to put more pressure ...

Don't cheer too early, it's inside the ECU EZ210K. Next questions: Location? Under the upholstry at your left leg. How's that? Sitting in the drivers seat.

Re: Running On
Very intriguing! The "dieseling" needs fuel. Injection being multi point or "semi" multi point shouldn't matter, it is activated in some way. Now when the ignition is switched off it is only effective as far as the spark is concerned, because the ignition coil is effectively powered off. But the ECU...
