Re: 1994 Volvo 480 Turbo Diary - Update May 2024
Once again, a superb bloody update.
As always, an absolute pleasure to help out - It really cheers me up to see people not being afraid to do the hard graft and save a car. So many people just give up; despite my best efforts, I can’t save them all!

Re: My 480s so far!
Pressure testing the best way of finding leaks. Flushing? I normally drop something in the tank and drive the car for half an hour, drain, fill with water, half an hour, drain, fill with coolant. Driving, rather than sitting at idle, just seems to make it work better. One of the first things I do on...

Re: Throttle control
Also remember that the Volume of air entering the engine is measured by the Map sensor, AFTER the throttle body. As James has already mentioned, the throttle position sensor measures only 2 things: When the throttle is closed (and thus, idle) or when the throttle is wide open. In terms of misfire, h...

Very hard to find, and even if you do, it’ll only crack again.

Re: Clutch replacement - particularly difficult?
Well, You'd need a decent trolley Jack and axles stands as an absolute starting point. You can lower the subframe on the NS, pop the OS inner driveshaft and pull the box enough to give you access. Doable? Yes Fun? Nope! However..... I'd also be avoiding "mr clutch" or any of the generic clutch place...

Re: New Owner - 1992 Limited Edition
Long time, no see. I had a busy summer last year and coupled with moving house, the 480 had been in storage since summer. I got the 480 back last week and set about to finally restore her. Straight into the garage and it turns out my suspicions were correct about the previous MOT the last owner had...

Re: Rear light seal suggestions?
Funny you mention wicking.... Have seen this happen on the upper rear boot seal; Water was going under the seal, up the inside of it, over the metal lip and then into the upper headlining seal, then running along a dripping out through the rear plastics. Other places I've seen leakage include the ta...

Never thought I'd be writing this..... I've actually sold out of rear seals!
Brinkie has some for European stock, so I'm just getting a requote on some more; Fingers crossed prices of EDPM haven't shot through the roof in the last 5 years.
