Re: Dendy's 480 Diary
Here we have the elusive rear engine mount, or at least a compatible one. The base on it is forged from the finest Chineseum alloy     You got me there, that was hilarious! Still, it can’t be worse than the original engine mount removed off of my engine - it had failed at so...

Re: Oil on speed sensor
I think we do actually have an oscilloscope somewhere, that’s a very clever way of you checking! If you also have an audio signal generator, just hook it up to the terminals and apply a 400 Hz signal to test the speedometer. Your speedometer should show around 120 mph. An Android phone will act nic...

Re: Momo Wheel
That car's been on eBay so long it feels like an old friend  Say no more  That’s a shame it’s gone, it does look vert nice and I’m sure it’ll be as rare as rocking horse teeth! Or a genuine rear blind... Still, I have the SRS wheel anyway, I don’t really mind it at all to be honest, the ...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
Thanks for the heads up mate, funnily enough, I did see your post about this the other day which did concern me! All I can say is that I haven’t seen any signs of the trims being misshapen or any signs of delamination, but it’s scary knowing what could be behind the screen where you can’t see! Luck...

That is a shame! I just checked too, guess I got very lucky when I ordered them on there!
Have you tried the usual suspects?

Do you still have the driving lights and front fog lights left? How about the Volvo badge for the nose come?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
Here’s a couple more pictures of the car from last weekend when I was able to get the car back from my friend’s place back to somewhere safe and able to remove the wet interior and let it dry, and attack the speed sensor once again! Hopefully when I return home in a couple of weeks I will be MOT rea...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
A steam clean under the bonnet is needed too! If that’s actually a good idea? I know how quirky these electronics are..... You can do an awful lot of cleaning without a steam cleaner; usual precautions apply. Cover sensitive stuff (cap, coil etc). Plenty of good degreasers with judicious use of old...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
The windscreen needs replacing as it has cracked around the interior mirror, but that might be a good time to address the small bubbles that have been above the windscreen since I’ve owned the car, hopefully nothing too bad! Prepare for a shock... It might look like this underneath. It is the...

Re: Oil on speed sensor
I have tested my spare sensor: 1.9 ohm. So that looks normal. I don't know if you have access to a portable oscilloscope? Once the circuit is complete, the speedometer sends a signal of approximately 125 kHz across the sensor (actually the sensor is part of an oscillator). This way I am testing spe...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
2 weeks ago... So yesterday I started getting the car ready for MOT again, I’ve taken the battery away to try and recover it, it was brand new only a couple of months ago but it has suffered where the car has been left. I’ve removed the boot carpet and the rear seats completely to mop up the water t...

Re: Oil on speed sensor
How much resistance do you measure when you are simply holding the pins of the measuring probes together? It might well be that the sensor is short-circuited. Also, it's too late now, but there was no reason to cut off the entire cable, just the connectors would have been enough. The measuring prob...

Re: Oil on speed sensor
It's a good thing the connector has been cut, because that is probably the source of your problems! First measure the sensor across the wires with an ohmmeter, it should read around 3 ohms. Then cut off all connectors, and solder the wires. If the problem persists, run a pair of wires from the spee...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
Looking smart. With the speedo check the cable first mine was shocking. It is like a coaxial cable and the outer had broken in a few places. You can loop the connector either at the speedo or the engine and test from the other end. I did this and proved it was dis, then used a length of twin core c...

Re: Oil on speed sensor
The ECU has NOTHING to do with intermittent failures of the speedometer. Only the 2 litre engine has a feed from the speedometer to the ECU, to signal the ECU that the car is driving, but without this feed the car runs just fine and so does the speedometer. If the engine cuts out when driving to a ...

Re: The story of #89/480 continues...
I realise it has been a while... But things have been very hectic really, and the 480 has sadly been on the backburner recently, however, she is still with us, she just needs more love and attention! The car was MOT’d in March last year, and I was able to enjoy a journey to London and back for work ...
