Wanted: 2.0 litre exhaust manifold

My manifold is cracked and I am tired of welding it up - does anyone have a used part available, please?

Re: So, today was the day...

Yes. Conversion lamps are not for exterior lamp use at all. With Halfords and other retailers selling them, strictly speaking, they are breaking the law that is not being enforced, although you'll notice that there will be a warning saying "for off road use"

Re: So, today was the day...

Sadly, yes, LED bulb conversions that fit in exterior lamp halogen housings are illegal to sell, fit and use on the road. This is because all replacement bulbs have to be e-marked; LED conversion bulbs cannot attain the standards as required by UK and EU law. If selling for off road use, the bulb ve...

Re: Wanted crankcase recirculating valve

They are obsolete - used ones are usually knackered anyway. If you find some new ones, let me know! I had to make my own using these parts: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Block-One-Way-Breather-Valve-035103245A-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-VW-Turbo-Models/391922324331?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%...

Re: Wanted crankcase recirculating valve

I don't understand why a turbo valve acts as a satisfactory substitute for a breather - and may be why people have reported problems when fitting it. When my breather fell apart, I could not get a new one and studied how it worked internally. Volvo stated that it had been calibrated inside, so I am ...

Re: 1987 480 ES Project -- D-reg, 2nd oldest in UK

Loving it! I have fond memories of my Mum's car, D808 CPV - that was also a launch car. She sold it in 1994-ish with 70k on the clock and it died in 2002, so I understand. It never went wrong, or rotted, during the time we had it.

Re: Gearbox/driveshaft bellows bearing - how to refit

I think the Haynes manual on the Megane, which uses a similar set up, suggests drifting it in with a tube bearing on the inner race.

Re: How many left....

According to "How Many Left", there's only one 460 Turbo manual left - although that is one SORN - just like mine ;)

My 480ES 2.0 is a relatively common beast....

Car Mechanics magazine (same publisher as Practical Classics) shall shortly be doing a 2-part piece on getting a 480 back on the road penned by a certain motoring journalist.... ;)

Re: Turbo breather valve (PCV)

I cannot see the pictures, sadly, as I do not have Photobucket membership. Yet, as the original part acts BOTH as a one way valve and as a calibrated restrictor under boost conditions, I fail to see how this conversion works in terms of the crankcase ventilation for an unmodified Turbo.

Re: WANTED: Heater slide knobs 3414933

Thanks but the Scandix ones looks like copies made in two parts. Does anyone know if they fit well and look OK? They are also quite expensive - if anyone has any original Volvo ones, I'd be interested.

Re: Turbo breather valve (PCV)

Thanks for this but I cant see any pictures and the crankcase breather is not a recirc valve - it's a diagram and one way valve combined - plus, my car is unmodified.

Does anyone have an alternative method? I am currently experimenting with a few set-ups...

Turbo breather valve (PCV)

As the original part is obsolete (part no 3451221) and not very well engineered, does anyone know of alternative set-ups (not catch-cans or bodging a filter on the end of the oil strainer) that maintains satisfactory breathing through the inlet manifold and turbo inlet?

Just bit the bullet and bought a pair of pop-up hydraulic struts from Scandex, equates to £50! I guess you guys will now pointy me to some cheaper alternatives...
