New cat

Recently the turbo stopped boosting fully and was spooling up slower than normal. At the same time I noticed a rattling sound coming from the cat and figured that it was coming apart internally. We are very lucky here in Adelaide that we have exhaust specialists who can custom fit a system to almost...

Sorry to see you leaving the 480 fraternity mate. Thanks for the help you have given me. I wouldn't have my lovely new clusters if it wasn't for you.
Are you still going to be available for advice etc?

Thanks. I might talk to a friendly exhaust shop and see if I can do away with the cat or do as you say and hollow it out.

Turbo boost problem

In the last two or three days the turbo is only boosting just into the yellow and not half way as is normally does, resulting in loss of power. At about the same time there is a rattling sound coming from the cat by the sound of it. My question is: If the cat is disintegrating internally could it be...

They are available ex Sydney but are only brought in in small numbers. The price is the biggest problem, especially the fronts. I don't know how it would go with Konis on the rear and Boges or the originals on the front. There would be a fairly big difference in the stiffness I think. How much do Ko...

I just got a price on Koni yellows - over $1000 for a set and they are not easy to come by! It is the fronts that are the biggest problem at $345 each! Boge on the other hand are $612 for the set. What are your thoughts on Boges? I am not sure how bad mine are exactly. The old standby used to be tha...

The best glue for acryllic, which is what lights are made of, is Weldon Cement . It is made in the US and is used in the plastics industry. Acryllic is very difficult to glue successfully with anything else. I bought a tube of it from a plastics company here in Adelaide. I looked it up on the intern...

Missfire fixed (touch wood)

Well my turbo has been running OK for nearly two weeks now after I took it to my Volvo mechanic. It was running way too rich and clogging the plugs so bad that it had to be towed for the second half of the journey. They checked all the sensors and replaced the knock sensor, and it idled better, but ...

That's 128.29 Euros according to my calculator. By the way Sakis, are you the same Sakis who posts on the Alfa Bulletin Board?

Thanks for that. I have added it to my useful sites list. Sometimes it is cheaper to get stuff sent from UK than to buy it here in Australia, even for common Volvos which were sold here, like the 440.

I was lucky because the 75 already had them when I bought it, along with springs and suspension tuning from the best in Australia for Alfa suspension. The handling on that car is awesome. The GTV I bought recently also has Koni yellows. I suspect that whatever I buy for the 480 is not going to be ch...

Which dampers are best?

I was wondering what people's thoughts and experience were with dampers for the 480. Mine are due for replacement, especially the rears. I have Koni yellows on my Alfa 75 and they are fantastic on that vehicle. I like tight cars and don't find the yellows too stiff. What are they like on a 480 or wo...

Very nice. Keep them out of the sun! Yes we will have to get into the habit of using a car cover I think. The trouble is that even if you keep your car in a garage at home it is usually outside all day at work. I wonder if the new clusters are any better than the originals as far as UV resistance i...

Thanks for the compliments guys. I am very pleased with it. The car has been attracting attention due to its rarity. Two young guys who looked like Nissan Sylvia types were admiring it the other day and asking how much power it had and a customer at my Alfa mechanic's place loved it. Everyone thinks...

My new rear clusters

I fitted my brand new rear clusters and centre panel today. The car looks like new now. Thanks to Martin for putting me onto them on Ebay a while ago. I have posted some before and after pics below. The old clusters ended up looking worse after I tried restoring them. They were better for a while bu...

Thanks for the info guys. I had some good news this afternoon. The Volvo mechanic rang to say that the car was fixed. He checked all the sensors, replaced the knock sensor, and got it idling OK, but it was still running rich. In the end he sprayed every electrical conection he could find with electr...

I am confused, I need to know which computer does what. I know that the one next to the bonnet release cable is for the lights etc. What exactly are the functions of the one in the centre console and the one one the right hand door pillar? Which one does the fuel, and if one is faulty should you rep...

Second hand ECU price

Can anyone tell me how much a second hand turbo fuel ECU would cost and what the availabilty is? I think mine is probably an orange stripe, but I won't know for sure till the mechanic takes it out. It looks like it is stuffed. The mechanic has gone through all the sensors etc and it is still over fu...

Parts interchangeability list

OK. We measured the coils on my Alfas and the 480, and the coil on the 75 is exactly the same near enough. The figures were as follows: Alfa 75 V6: Primary .8 ohms Secondary 7.8k ohms Volvo 480 turbo Primary .7 ohms Secondary 7.58k ohms The Alfa 33 was similar on the primary, but was only about 5k o...

Well, hopefully once I sort out the coil data we can add the coils you got from Autodata to the list. We have some useful stuff on it so far.
